Hip Fracture Physiotherapy in Indirapuram
A hip fracture is one of the most serious injuries an older adult can have, and one of the most common after a fall. Surgery fixes the bone. Rehabilitation decides whether the person gets back to walking and living independently.
Why early mobilisation matters
Most hip fractures are repaired with surgery within a day or two. Getting the patient out of bed and moving soon after reduces the risk of pneumonia, clots, pressure sores and delirium. Every day in bed costs muscle strength, and older adults don't have much to spare.
The type of surgery (screws, a nail, a partial or total replacement) affects how much weight can be put through the leg. Your surgeon will advise, and we follow that.
Rehabilitation at home
After discharge, many families prefer home physiotherapy. It makes sense: the goal is to function in the home, and that's where the real obstacles are. We work on transfers from bed and chair, toilet access, walking with the right aid, and steps.
Strength training for the legs and hips is progressed steadily. Balance is trained specifically. Endurance is built up so the person can walk farther without tiring.
Preventing the next fall
A hip fracture is often a sign of both osteoporosis and falls risk. We look at the causes of the fall: weakness, balance problems, medication side effects, vision, footwear, lighting, loose rugs and bathroom safety. Addressing these is as important as rehab itself.
We also encourage a conversation with the doctor about bone health treatment if it hasn't happened.
What recovery looks like
Recovery varies a lot. Some people return to their previous level within three to six months. Others need a walking aid long term. Consistent, well-targeted rehab gives the best chance.
Exercises often used for Hip Fracture
These are exercises our physiotherapists commonly include. Which ones suit you, how many and in what order depends on your assessment and stage of recovery.
Medical note
This page is general information, not a diagnosis. Treatment is planned after an in-person assessment by a physiotherapist, and we refer you to a doctor where symptoms need medical review first. If you have sudden weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, chest pain or severe unexplained pain, seek emergency care.
