Cerebral Palsy Physiotherapy in Indirapuram

Cerebral palsy is a group of conditions affecting movement and posture, caused by injury to the developing brain. It doesn't get worse over time, but its effects on muscles and joints can change as a child grows. Therapy helps each child move, play and participate as fully as possible.

Types and presentation

Spastic cerebral palsy, the most common, causes stiff muscles. Dyskinetic types involve involuntary movements. Ataxic types affect balance and coordination. Cerebral palsy can affect one side of the body, both legs, or the whole body, and severity ranges from mild clumsiness to needing significant support.

Goals change with age

In babies and toddlers, therapy focuses on head control, sitting, rolling, crawling and early standing. For school-age children, it may be walking, balance, stairs, playground skills and joining in sport. For teenagers and adults, maintaining mobility, managing pain and staying fit become more important.

Therapy approaches

Goal-directed, task-specific practice is at the core: practising the activities the child and family care about. Strength training is safe and beneficial. Stretching, positioning, splints and standing programmes help manage tightness. Treadmill and supported walking training can improve gait.

We coordinate with doctors about spasticity treatments like botulinum toxin injections, which work best when followed by focused therapy. Families are central, since daily practice at home matters more than any single session.

Medical note

This page is general information, not a diagnosis. Treatment is planned after an in-person assessment by a physiotherapist, and we refer you to a doctor where symptoms need medical review first. If you have sudden weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, chest pain or severe unexplained pain, seek emergency care.
