Muscle and Tendon Conditions
Hamstring Strain Physiotherapy in Indirapuram
Hamstring strains are among the most common injuries in sprinting and field sports, and they have a reputation for coming back. Most re-injuries happen because rehab stops too soon, before the muscle is truly ready for full-speed running.
How it happens
Most hamstring strains happen during high-speed running, as the muscle works hard to slow the leg down just before the foot hits the ground. Others happen during overstretching, like a high kick or split. Cricket, football, athletics and kabaddi are common sources.
Symptoms
Sudden pain at the back of the thigh, sometimes with a pop. Walking may be uncomfortable, and bending forward or lifting the leg straight hurts. Bruising may appear a day or two later.
Severe injuries at the top near the buttock, where the tendon can pull off the bone, need medical assessment, as some require surgery.
Rehabilitation
We start with gentle movement and isometric work, then progress strength training through increasing range. Eccentric exercises, such as the Nordic hamstring curl, have good evidence for reducing hamstring injury risk and are built in as tolerance allows. Running is reintroduced progressively, from jogging to full-speed sprints.
Return to sport is guided by pain-free sprinting, strength and confidence, not just a date. That approach reduces the chances of the injury coming back.
Exercises often used for Hamstring Strain
These are exercises our physiotherapists commonly include. Which ones suit you, how many and in what order depends on your assessment and stage of recovery.
Medical note
This page is general information, not a diagnosis. Treatment is planned after an in-person assessment by a physiotherapist, and we refer you to a doctor where symptoms need medical review first. If you have sudden weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, chest pain or severe unexplained pain, seek emergency care.
