Rehabilitation Exercises

Rotator Cuff Rehabilitation Exercises

Rotator cuff rehabilitation restores shoulder movement and strength after tendinopathy, partial tears or surgical repair. After surgery, the tendon needs protection early, so the programme follows the surgeon's timeline.

What it does

Progressive loading builds tendon capacity. After repair, early protection allows healing before loading starts.

You will often see it in our programmes for rotator cuff injury, supraspinatus tendinitis and shoulder impingement, and it features in our shoulder pain physiotherapy programmes.

How to do it

  1. Early after surgery: sling, pendulums, passive range by a therapist.
  2. Active-assisted and active range as allowed.
  3. Isometrics, then band strengthening.
  4. Progressive strength and overhead function.
  5. For tendinopathy without surgery, start with isometrics and progress load.

How much

Daily, with strength sessions 3 times a week.

Stop and check with us if

  • Sudden loss of strength or a pop after surgery.
