Elbow, Wrist and Hand
Tennis Elbow Physiotherapy in Indirapuram
Tennis elbow is pain on the outside of the elbow where the wrist extensor tendons attach. Despite the name, most people who get it are laptop users, cooks, carpenters and parents lifting small children.
What's going on in the tendon
The muscles that lift your wrist and fingers share a tendon attachment on the bony bump on the outside of the elbow. Repeated gripping, especially with the wrist bent back, overloads that tendon. Over weeks it becomes sensitive and structurally disorganised. It isn't really inflammation, which is why the proper name is lateral elbow tendinopathy.
A mouse used for nine hours with the wrist cocked up, a heavy kadhai lifted one-handed, a new badminton habit, or hours of screwdriver work are all typical triggers.
How it feels
Pain on the outer elbow when gripping, shaking hands, lifting a kettle or turning a door handle. The tender spot is usually easy to find. The pain can spread down the forearm. Grip strength often drops, which people notice as dropping things.
What treatment involves
The evidence-backed centre of treatment is progressive tendon loading: slow wrist extension exercises with a light weight, increasing over weeks. Early on, isometric holds often reduce pain enough to start.
Equally important is changing the load that caused it. That might mean a vertical mouse, lifting with the palm facing up, a bigger handle on tools, or a forearm strap for specific tasks. Shockwave therapy has reasonable support for stubborn cases. Taping and soft tissue work can give short-term relief.
A realistic timeline
Tennis elbow is notoriously slow. Many cases take three to six months to resolve fully, sometimes longer. Steroid injections can bring quick relief but studies show higher recurrence rates later, so they're best used with caution.
Exercises often used for Tennis Elbow
These are exercises our physiotherapists commonly include. Which ones suit you, how many and in what order depends on your assessment and stage of recovery.
Medical note
This page is general information, not a diagnosis. Treatment is planned after an in-person assessment by a physiotherapist, and we refer you to a doctor where symptoms need medical review first. If you have sudden weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, chest pain or severe unexplained pain, seek emergency care.
