Rehabilitation Exercises
Post Surgery Exercises
Post surgery exercises help you recover movement, strength and function after an operation. They start with circulation and breathing exercises and progress through stages set by your surgeon's protocol.
What it does
Early movement reduces complications like blood clots and chest infections. Graded rehab then restores function.
Our physiotherapists use it most often for spinal fusion, discectomy and laminectomy, and it features in our post-surgical rehabilitation programmes.
How to do it
- Day 1 onwards: ankle pumps, deep breathing, getting out of bed.
- Early phase: gentle range of motion and muscle activation.
- Middle phase: strengthening and walking progression.
- Late phase: functional and sport-specific training.
- Always follow your surgeon's restrictions.
How much
Short, frequent sessions early; longer programmes later.
Stop and check with us if
- Wound redness, discharge, fever, calf pain or new numbness occurs. Contact your surgical team.
