Osteoporosis Physiotherapy in Indirapuram
Osteoporosis is a condition where bones become less dense and more fragile, increasing the risk of fractures from minor falls. It's often silent until a fracture happens. Exercise, particularly strength and balance training, is an important part of prevention and management.
Why it matters
Osteoporosis often causes no symptoms until a fracture occurs, commonly in the wrist, hip or spine. Spinal fractures can cause height loss, a stooped posture and back pain. Women after menopause, older adults, people on long-term steroids, and those with low body weight or family history are at higher risk.
A bone density scan (DEXA) diagnoses it. Medical treatment, calcium and vitamin D are often recommended.
Exercise for bone health
Bones respond to load. Progressive strength training and impact exercise (where appropriate) can help maintain or improve bone density. Balance training reduces falls, which is just as important as bone strength in preventing fractures.
Safe movement
People with osteoporosis, especially with previous spinal fractures, may be advised to avoid heavy loaded forward bending and twisting. We teach safe ways to lift, bend and move, and adapt exercises to your bone health.
Falls prevention
We assess strength, balance, footwear, vision and home hazards. Simple changes, like grab rails, good lighting and removing loose rugs, reduce fall risk significantly.
Exercises often used for Osteoporosis
These are exercises our physiotherapists commonly include. Which ones suit you, how many and in what order depends on your assessment and stage of recovery.
Medical note
This page is general information, not a diagnosis. Treatment is planned after an in-person assessment by a physiotherapist, and we refer you to a doctor where symptoms need medical review first. If you have sudden weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, chest pain or severe unexplained pain, seek emergency care.
