Pediatric Exercises
Crawling Exercises
Crawling exercises strengthen the shoulders, hips and trunk and develop coordination between both sides of the body. They help babies who are slow to crawl and are used in older children to build strength and coordination.
What it does
Crawling builds shoulder stability, hip strength and alternating movement patterns.
Our physiotherapists use it most often for down syndrome, dyslexia and autism, and it features in our pediatric physiotherapy programmes.
How to do it
- Hands and knees rocking: support the baby in four-point position and rock gently.
- Place toys just ahead to encourage reaching and moving.
- Crawl over cushions and through tunnels for older children.
- Animal walks: bear crawls and crab walks for school-age children.
How much
Daily play sessions.
Stop and check with us if
- Your child crawls using only one side, or drags a leg.
Medical note
These instructions are general guidance, not a personal prescription. If you have a recent injury or surgery, a diagnosed condition, or symptoms such as numbness, weakness or dizziness, get assessed before starting. Stop and seek advice if pain increases sharply or you feel unwell.
