Ankle and Foot Exercises

Ankle and foot exercises restore movement after sprains and fractures, strengthen the calf and foot muscles, and train balance to prevent repeat injury. They also form the core of treatment for plantar fasciitis and flat feet.

How to use these exercises

After an injury, start with ankle circles and pumps. Progress to band exercises in all directions, calf raises and single leg balance. For heel pain, combine plantar fascia and calf stretches with strengthening.

When to see a physiotherapist first

Get assessed if you can't bear weight, have a snap or pop at the back of the heel, or have diabetes with foot wounds or numbness.

Medical note

These instructions are general guidance, not a personal prescription. If you have a recent injury or surgery, a diagnosed condition, or symptoms such as numbness, weakness or dizziness, get assessed before starting. Stop and seek advice if pain increases sharply or you feel unwell.
