Pediatric Exercises
Pediatric Strengthening
Pediatric strengthening uses play and games to build muscle strength in children with weakness, low tone or developmental conditions. Stronger muscles improve balance, endurance and participation in daily activities.
What it does
Progressive, enjoyable strengthening improves function without feeling like exercise.
You will often see it in our programmes for down syndrome, autism and cerebral palsy, and it features in our pediatric physiotherapy programmes.
How to do it
- Sit to stand from small chairs during games.
- Stepping up and down from a step or low bench.
- Wheelbarrow walking to build arm and trunk strength.
- Jumping, hopping and climbing play equipment.
- Bridging and superman positions made into games.
How much
Short daily sessions of 15 to 20 minutes.
Stop and check with us if
- In muscular dystrophy, fatigue or soreness lasts more than a day. Exercise must be carefully dosed.
Medical note
These instructions are general guidance, not a personal prescription. If you have a recent injury or surgery, a diagnosed condition, or symptoms such as numbness, weakness or dizziness, get assessed before starting. Stop and seek advice if pain increases sharply or you feel unwell.
