How to use this calculator
- Mark a straight distance and time yourself at your usual pace.
- Enter distance and time.
- See gait speed and what it means.
How it works
Gait speed (metres per second) is distance divided by time. Clinical bands: under 0.4 m/s household walker, 0.4 to 0.8 limited community walker, over 0.8 community walker, 1.2 or more normal. AWGS 2019 uses 1.0 m/s for older adults.
Reading your result

| Under 0.4 | Household |
Physiotherapy treatment
Gait assessment and rehabilitation is the core of physiotherapy for mobility limitation. After an assessment, your physiotherapist sets a plan built around walking and functional strengthening, progressed as your results improve. Hands-on treatment, pain relief and education are added where they help.
