How to use this calculator
- Measure each movement with a goniometer or a phone inclinometer app, or use values from your physiotherapist.
- Enter the degrees for the movements you measured; leave the rest blank.
- See each movement as a percentage of normal range.
How it works
Measurements are compared with typical adult ranges published by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Extension deficits (how far short of straight a joint stops) are scored separately because 0 degrees is normal. The weakest movement sets the overall band.
Reading your result
| 90% of normal or more | Near full range. |
|---|---|
| 70 to 89% | Moderate restriction: mobility work helps. |
| Under 70% | Significant restriction: assessment advised. |
Physiotherapy treatment
Shoulder mobility and strengthening is the core of physiotherapy for shoulder stiffness. After an assessment, your physiotherapist sets a plan built around pendulum, wall slides and assisted ROM when appropriate, progressed as your results improve. Hands-on treatment, pain relief and education are added where they help.
Exercises this calculator may recommend
Your result decides which of these appear, and at what dose.

Calculators give estimates for general guidance and do not diagnose any condition. Stop and seek medical help for chest pain, fainting, sudden weakness or numbness, loss of bladder or bowel control, or severe or rapidly worsening pain.
