How to use this calculator
- Walk as far as you can in 6 minutes on a flat, measured course.
- Enter distance, age, sex, height and weight.
- Compare with the predicted distance.
How it works
Predicted six-minute walk distance uses the Enright and Sherrill equations for healthy adults. Distances below the lower limit of normal suggest reduced exercise capacity. A change of about 30 metres is meaningful.
Reading your result
| 90% of predicted or more | Normal capacity |
|---|---|
| Under 90% | Slightly reduced |
| Below lower limit | Reduced capacity |
Physiotherapy treatment
Endurance and functional assessment is the core of physiotherapy for reduced exercise capacity. After an assessment, your physiotherapist sets a plan built around graded walking and endurance training, progressed as your results improve. Hands-on treatment, pain relief and education are added where they help.
Exercises this calculator may recommend
Your result decides which of these appear, and at what dose.
