When to see a sports physiotherapist
- a sudden injury with swelling, bruising or difficulty bearing weight
- pain that changes how you run, jump or swing
- a niggle that has lasted more than two weeks
- pain that keeps returning at the same point in training
- a previous injury that never quite recovered
- returning to sport after surgery or a long break
Common injuries we see
Runners. Knee pain, shin pain, Achilles and plantar fascia problems, often linked to sudden mileage increases. Our article on knee injuries in runners covers the common ones.
Badminton and tennis players. Shoulder, elbow, ankle sprains and calf strains.
Cricketers. Shoulder and back pain from bowling, hamstring strains and knee problems.
Footballers. Ankle sprains, hamstring strains, groin pain and knee ligament injuries.
Gym-goers. Shoulder, lower back and knee pain from lifting.
What treatment involves
Assessment identifies the injury and what contributed to it. Treatment combines load management, progressive strengthening, hands-on techniques where helpful and a planned return to sport. The aim isn't just recovery but reducing the chance of the same injury recurring.
Returning to sport
Returning when pain settles, rather than when strength and function are restored, is the main cause of repeat injuries. Our guide to return-to-sport rehabilitation explains the criteria.
Weekend sport and weekday desks
Many Noida athletes are office workers during the week. They sit for long hours, then play hard at weekends, often in cricket, badminton or football. That pattern is a classic setup for injury: the body spends five days getting less conditioned, then gets asked for sprints, lunges and jumps.
Two short midweek sessions change the picture significantly. A 20-minute strength routine, such as squats, lunges, calf raises and core work, plus a short run or skipping session, keeps the body closer to what weekend sport demands. A proper warm-up before play, with jogging, dynamic stretches and a few sport-specific drills, also reduces risk.
When an injury does happen, getting it checked early usually means a shorter layoff. Many sports injuries can be managed while continuing some training, if the load is adjusted sensibly.
