After ACL surgery
Physiotherapy After ACL Surgery in Noida
ACL surgery physiotherapy in Noida for the weeks right after discharge, delivered at home on scheduled sector slots, with practical help for lifts, bathrooms, bed height and whoever is doing the helping.
Why the first fortnight matters so much
After ACL reconstruction the knee wants to rest slightly bent, because that's where it feels least tight. Give it a pillow underneath for comfort and within a week or so it can lose the last few degrees of straightening. That small loss is surprisingly stubborn. It leads to a limp, a sore front of the knee and a thigh that never fully switches on.
So the first weeks at home aren't just about rest. They're about getting the knee completely straight, keeping swelling down, teaching the quadriceps to fire again and walking safely on crutches. All of it can be done in your flat, and none of it needs gym equipment.
Setting up a high-rise flat for a new ACL knee
Most of the families we visit in Noida live in tower societies, and the flat itself creates the first set of problems. On the first visit we walk through it with you.
- Bed: a low divan or a mattress on the floor makes standing up on one good leg hard. A firm extra mattress usually fixes it. Push the bed against the wall on the operated side so you can't roll onto the knee at night.
- Bathroom: the raised threshold at the bathroom door, often several centimetres high, catches crutch tips. We practise stepping over it, and a plastic stool in the shower helps more than any gadget.
- Toilet: an Indian-style toilet is out for now because of the deep knee bend. You need a western commode, or a commode chair placed over the pan.
- Lift: the doors close faster than someone on crutches expects. Go in first, stand at the back, and let the attendant hold the door.
- Stairs: if the lift is under maintenance you need a safe method. Good leg leads going up, operated leg leads coming down, one step at a time with the rail.
What the early home sessions involve
The first visit runs longer than the rest. We read the discharge summary and operative notes, check the brace settings your surgeon chose, measure how far the knee straightens and bends, and look at the wound area without disturbing the dressing. Then we write a short plan for the next fortnight.
Later visits last about 45 to 60 minutes. Typical pieces are quadriceps activation (sometimes helped by the portable muscle stimulator we carry), heel slides, straight leg raises once the thigh can hold the knee locked, cold packs for swelling, and walking practice in the corridor outside your flat. Exactly what you do depends on the assessment and on the graft used, because a hamstring graft and a patellar tendon graft carry different early limits. Our background guide to ACL injuries explains the ligament's job if you want the reasoning.
The attendant matters as much as the patient. We show whoever is at home how to help you up from the bed, get dressed with the brace on and walk beside you without gripping your arm. If personal care is more than the family can manage, nursing support at home after surgery can be arranged alongside. We also send progress notes to your surgeon, as we do across all our post-operative rehab work. Had a different knee ligament repaired, such as the MCL or PCL? Early weeks at a glance
Days 1 to 7
Swelling control, knee straightening, quadriceps switching on, safe bed and toilet transfers, crutch walking on flat floors.
Week 2
Bending toward 90 degrees as allowed, longer corridor walks, supervised stair practice, brace changes only as the surgeon instructs.
Weeks 3 to 4
Partial to full weight as permitted, one crutch then none if the surgeon agrees, simple balance work holding the kitchen counter.
Weeks 4 to 6
Walking without a limp, stairs step-over-step, first bodyweight strength work. The usual point to start thinking about clinic sessions.
These are outlines. If your surgeon has a written protocol, that's what we follow. The ACL timeline estimator gives a rough personal picture.
ACL surgery physiotherapy in Noida: slots and evening visits
Home visits in Noida run on scheduled slots so our physiotherapists can plan travel across sectors rather than crisscrossing the city. We're regularly in sectors 62, 63, 71, 72, 75, 76, 121 and 137, plus Noida Extension. Evening slots are popular with families where both adults work, so book a day ahead if you can. More on how we work inside gated towers is on the Noida society visits page.
Pricing is indicative and confirmed when you book: a single visit is Rs 800 to 1,200, a weekly plan of 6 visits starts from Rs 4,500, and a monthly plan of 24 visits starts from Rs 16,000.
When to call the surgeon or an ambulance
Call your surgeon the same day if the calf becomes painful, swollen or tender, if you develop a fever, or if the wound turns red or starts to discharge. Sudden severe pain, or new numbness or weakness in the foot, also needs the surgeon. Sudden breathlessness or chest pain can mean a clot has travelled to the lungs: call 112 or 108 for an ambulance immediately, before calling anyone else.
When the trip to Indirapuram becomes worth it
Home sessions take you a long way, but the later strength and return-to-sport phase needs equipment, room to run and change direction, and testing that's hard to do well in a living room. Once you can sit through the drive and walk confidently without crutches, often in the second month, we'll talk about moving some or all sessions to the Indirapuram clinic. Our page on the clinic-based ACL strength phase explains what that stage involves. If you'd rather stay home-based, the weekly-plan approach we use in Raj Nagar Extension shows how a home programme can carry more of the load. Players heading back to a sport will eventually want sport-specific rehab as well.

This page is general information, not a diagnosis or a treatment plan. Your physiotherapy is planned after an in-person assessment and works alongside the advice of your surgeon and doctor. Recovery differs from person to person, so no timeline or result on this page is a promise.
Frequently asked questions
How far ahead should I book an evening visit in Noida?
A day ahead is safest. Evening slots fill first because many families want someone home during the session, and travel across sectors is planned around fixed slots. If you already know the discharge date, message us before leaving hospital so the first assessment can happen within a day or two of getting home.
Should I keep a pillow under my knee for comfort?
Not under the knee itself. It feels good, but it lets the knee settle in a bent position, and losing full straightening early is hard to win back. If your surgeon agrees, support under the heel with the back of the knee unsupported is a better resting position. We'll check your setup on the first visit.
Our society lift is often out of service. Can I still recover at home?
Yes, but learn the stairs before you need them. We teach a safe pattern in the first one or two visits, with the attendant standing on the operated side. If the lift is unreliable and you live high up, avoid unnecessary trips downstairs in the first fortnight and plan surgeon reviews for times when maintenance is less likely.
Who should be at home during the visit?
Ideally the person who'll help you most over the coming weeks. We teach transfers, brace handling and how to support walking, and that only sticks if the helper practises with us. A domestic helper can learn too, though a family member who is around in the evenings is often more useful for the long stretch.
Is home rehab different from what I'd get at the clinic?
The principles are the same and the surgeon's protocol drives both. The difference is equipment. At home we use bands, the portable muscle stimulator, cold packs and your own furniture. When you need heavier strength work and formal testing before sport, the clinic setting does that job better.
