After ligament surgery
Physiotherapy After Ligament Surgery in Raj Nagar Extension
Ligament surgery physiotherapy in Raj Nagar Extension for non-ACL repairs, run as a weekly plan at a fixed time, with a home programme, family support and clear rules for protecting the repair between visits.
Slow-healing tissue needs steady work
Ligaments have a poorer blood supply than muscle, so a repaired or reconstructed ligament takes months to mature. That timescale changes how rehab should be organised. A burst of daily visits followed by nothing does less than a steady weekly rhythm kept up for as long as the repair needs it, with you doing most of the work in between. It's the same principle behind all our post-surgical rehabilitation, but it matters most here.
That's how we run longer courses in Raj Nagar Extension: scheduled home visits, usually starting within 24 hours of booking, then a weekly plan at a fixed time. Our page on home physio in Raj Nagar Extension explains coverage across the societies off NH-58.
Repairs we support and what each needs from you
This page is for ligament operations other than the ACL. If yours was an ACL reconstruction, the ACL weekly-plan page fits better.
- PCL reconstruction: the home task most often missed is supporting the calf when lying down so the shin doesn't sag back. Background in the PCL injury overview.
- MCL or LCL repair: wearing the hinged brace correctly at whatever range the surgeon has set, and not twisting on a planted foot.
- Lateral ankle ligament reconstruction: elevation and boot discipline early, then daily balance work. Our ankle surgery rehab in Raj Nagar Extension page goes deeper.
- Elbow or thumb repair: splint care, keeping the free joints moving, and patience with grip.
- Multi-ligament knee: all of the above, done more slowly, with frequent contact with the surgeon.
A weekly plan suits people who can follow a short written programme and have someone at home for the first fortnight. It suits a multi-ligament knee less well in the early weeks, or an older person living alone with a locked brace, because the risks between visits are higher. In those cases we start with more frequent visits and only settle into the weekly rhythm once transfers, walking and the brace routine are safe. There's no shame in needing more help at the start. It usually means the weekly plan works better later.
Home programme rules that protect the repair
Each repair has one or two movements that strain it, and the home programme is built around avoiding those until the surgeon allows them. After an ankle ligament reconstruction, it's rolling the foot inward. After a PCL graft, it's resisted knee bending and letting the shin sag. After an MCL repair, it's the knee collapsing inward, the way it does when you stand up from a low stool with your knees together. After a thumb repair, it's forceful pinching, like twisting open a tight pickle jar.
Everything else is fair game, which is more than most people expect. The hip, the core, the other leg and the upper body all keep training. Weeks spent waiting for the brace to be opened up are a good time to build hip strength with something like the glute bridge, provided your surgeon's limits allow it.
Tracking progress between visits
We ask for three things between sessions. A short daily note of what you did and how the joint felt the next morning. A weekly photo or video: a walk down the corridor for knees and ankles, a hand opening and closing for thumb repairs. And honest reporting of swelling, giving way or new pain. The exercise progress tracker is a handy place to log sets and reps.
None of this replaces assessment, but it stops the weekly visit becoming a memory test, and it gives your surgeon better information through our progress notes.
Ligament surgery physiotherapy in Raj Nagar Extension, visit by visit
Protection weeks
Visits more often while the brace, boot or splint routine and safe walking are being learned. Family shown how to help.
Weekly plan
A fixed slot each week, more if needed. The home programme carries the daily work; visits check form and move it on.
Tapering
Visits spread to every ten days or two weeks once the log shows steady progress and no setbacks.
Review only
Occasional check-ins, plus clinic sessions for strength testing or sport-specific work if your goals need them.
We step back up if the log shows a run of swollen mornings or a new limp. Tapering is a decision we keep revisiting rather than a one-way move.
When to call the surgeon or an ambulance
Do not wait for the weekly visit if you develop a fever, the scar becomes red, hot or starts oozing, pain suddenly gets much worse, or you notice new numbness or weakness in the hand or foot. A painful or swollen calf after a leg repair should be seen by a doctor that day. Sudden chest pain or breathlessness is an emergency: call 112 or 108 for an ambulance.
Is the drive to the clinic worth it?
From Raj Nagar Extension, our Indirapuram clinic is a drive across the Hindon, so a visit should earn its place. Early on it doesn't. Later, a few sessions are worthwhile for equipment-based strength work, balance on unstable surfaces, and testing before sport or heavy work. Hand repairs may benefit from the clinic's wax bath and grip equipment sooner. A practical pattern is to save the drive for every second or third week, timed for when the programme needs a real step up, and keep the weekly home slot in between. The clinic-based ligament rehab in Indirapuram page describes that stage, and if you're still in the first fortnight, the early-weeks ligament guide for Noida covers brace routines and flat setup in detail.
Medical note
This page is general information, not a diagnosis or a treatment plan. Your physiotherapy is planned after an in-person assessment and works alongside the advice of your surgeon and doctor. Recovery differs from person to person, so no timeline or result on this page is a promise.
Frequently asked questions
Can I skip the weekly visit if the home programme is going well?
Occasionally, but the weekly check is what catches small problems early: a brace worn too low, an exercise drifting into a poor pattern, a range that has quietly stopped improving. If things are going well, we'd rather space visits out deliberately than have them skipped at random.
What counts as a setback I should report?
Swelling that's worse two mornings running, a new limp, the joint giving way, pain that wakes you at night, or losing range you previously had. Mention these at the next visit or sooner on WhatsApp. Anything on the red-flag list, such as calf swelling or fever, goes to the surgeon the same day.
Can my child or spouse do the exercises with me?
Company makes it easier to stick with, and family can count, steady you during balance work and film progress. They shouldn't hold or push the joint through its range, since a repaired ligament can be overstretched by well-meant pressure. We'll show them where their hands go and where they don't.
Does the fixed weekly time really matter?
It helps more than people expect. A fixed slot turns rehab into a habit for the whole household, and it lets us plan travel across Raj Nagar Extension sensibly. If a particular week genuinely doesn't work, the slot can move, but we try to keep it steady over the course.
My ankle feels fine now. Why keep doing balance exercises?
Because surgery restores the ligament, not the reflexes. Ankle reconstruction is often done after repeated sprains, and the balance system that let you down before needs retraining or the ankle may still roll. Balance work is quick, needs no equipment, and is the part of the programme most worth keeping after visits stop.
