After spine surgery
Physiotherapy After Spine Surgery in Raj Nagar Extension
Spine surgery physiotherapy in Raj Nagar Extension built around a weekly home plan, so that the days between visits after a fusion, laminectomy or decompression keep recovery moving rather than standing still.
Who this plan is designed for
This page is for people after lumbar or thoracic fusion, laminectomy, decompression for stenosis, or fixation following a spinal fracture or for scoliosis. A discectomy for a slipped disc is a smaller operation with a different main risk, and it has its own page: rehab after slip disc surgery in Raj Nagar Extension. For a plain account of the bone-removal operation, see what happens in a laminectomy.
Most recovery happens when the physiotherapist isn't there
Do the sums on an ordinary week. Three home visits of 45 to 60 minutes add up to less than three hours. You're awake for more than a hundred. What happens in those other hours (how often you walk, how you get up from the sofa, whether you lie down when the back starts aching or push on regardless) decides a great deal of the result. Visits set the direction and check the work. The rest is up to you and your family.
That's especially true in Raj Nagar Extension. We reach the societies off NH-58 on scheduled slots, and the first visit is normally within a day of your call. A long course is booked as a weekly plan with the same time each week, and that sameness helps more than people expect. If Tuesday at 5 pm is your check-in, Monday evening is when you notice whether you actually did the walking.
A weekly plan that steps down
The pattern below is common. Yours is set after assessment and adjusted as you go.
Early weeks
Five or six visits a week while transfers, walking and the home setup are sorted and the family learns how to help.
Middle weeks
About three visits a week. Exercises move up at each visit, and you do the programme alone on the other days.
Later weeks
One or two visits a week to check technique, raise the difficulty and read through your log.
Stepping off
A monthly review, or a clinic visit if needed, with a programme you can keep up unsupervised.
Visits come down when you can do the programme correctly without reminders and your walking keeps growing, not on a fixed date. For budgeting, a single session is Rs 800 to 1,200 and six visits bought as a weekly plan begin at Rs 4,500 (indicative figures, confirmed when you book).
The home programme on one page
Ours fits on one sheet you can stick to a cupboard door: this week's exercises, usually three to five of them, how many times, and a walking target. The sheet changes at every visit. Early items often include gentle bracing of the deep trunk muscles, slow belly breathing, walking in short bouts, and practice standing up from a chair. Later items are picked after assessment and may include bridging for the hip muscles once the surgeon allows it.
Two habits make the sheet work. Attach it to something you already do every day, like after morning tea or before the evening news. And write down what you did, not what you meant to do. An honest log with gaps is more useful to us than a perfect one.
Keeping track yourself
We ask for three notes a day: total walking minutes, the worst back pain on a 0 to 10 scale, and any leg symptoms, where they are and whether they are more or less than yesterday. Soreness that has settled by the next morning is usually acceptable. Pain that is worse the next day, or tingling that spreads further down the leg, means ease off and tell us, or call sooner if it is marked. The spine rehab progress calculator can show whether you're roughly keeping pace with your stage.
What spine surgery physiotherapy asks of the family
Families often want to do everything, and well-meant help can backfire. Pulling someone up by the arms loads the spine. Doing every task for them means they never practise. We train one or two people to guide the roll out of bed, fit a brace if one has been prescribed, walk alongside on the first trips downstairs, and recognise warning signs. Then we ask them to step back a little more each week. A person who puts on their own socks by week three is ahead of one whose son is still doing it.
Is the drive to the Indirapuram clinic worth it?
From Raj Nagar Extension the drive is long, and in the early weeks that much sitting is usually a poor trade. Later it can be worth it for specific reasons: heavier strength work on gym equipment once the surgeon clears it, or a review needing more equipment than we carry. Plenty of people finish their whole course at home. If you're comparing options, read about the clinic-led route in Indirapuram and the first weeks at home after spine surgery in Noida.
Coverage, booking and slot details are on our page for home physiotherapy in Raj Nagar Extension, and the general approach is described under our post-surgery rehabilitation.
When to call the surgeon or an ambulance
Between visits, you are the one who will notice problems first. Phone the surgeon for fever, a red, hot or leaking wound, or a sudden jump in pain. Get same-day help for a swollen or tender calf, or for leg weakness or numbness that is new. Call 112 or 108 at once for sudden breathlessness or chest pain, or if control of the bladder or bowels is lost.
Medical note
This page is general information, not a diagnosis or a treatment plan. Your physiotherapy is planned after an in-person assessment and works alongside the advice of your surgeon and doctor. Recovery differs from person to person, so no timeline or result on this page is a promise.
Frequently asked questions
What if I miss a day of the home programme?
Pick it up the next day at the usual level. Don't double the exercises to catch up, because a sudden jump in volume is a common cause of a flare. Note the missed day on your log so we can see the pattern. If days are being missed often, tell us, and we'll make the programme shorter or fit it to a better time.
How do we know it's time to reduce the number of visits?
We look for three things together: you do the programme correctly without prompting, your walking is still growing week on week, and there have been no flares that needed changes to the plan. When those are true, fewer visits rarely slows progress. We discuss the change with you rather than cutting visits without warning.
Can the first visit happen the day after discharge?
Usually. Raj Nagar Extension is covered on scheduled slots, and most first visits happen within 24 hours of booking. Calling once the discharge date is confirmed gives us the best chance of matching a slot to the day you get home, which is when help with the bed and bathroom matters most.
My father's surgery was for a fracture after a fall. Is this plan right for him?
Yes, fixation after a spinal fracture is covered here. His plan will put extra weight on balance, safe walking and making the home harder to fall in, alongside the back itself. Bone health is a question for his doctor, and we'll follow the surgeon's limits on bending and lifting closely.
