Post Surgery Physiotherapy at Home in Noida

Post surgery physiotherapy at home in Noida for the first weeks after discharge, when lifts, bathroom steps and bed height matter as much as the exercises. Scheduled visits across sectors, with evening slots for working families.

The first week after discharge in a high-rise flat

Hospitals discharge people sooner than they used to, and the first week home is when most of the problems show up. The car seat is too low. The basement lift lobby has a step. The bed is pushed against the wall on the wrong side. The bathroom has a raised door strip and a wet floor. None of this is in the surgeon's discharge sheet, and all of it decides whether recovery starts well. Tiredness surprises people too: a shower and a short walk can use up a whole morning's energy in the first week. Our post surgery physiotherapy at home in Noida is built for this week and the few that follow.

From the car to the bed

We often start before the patient is even home, by talking the family through the journey. Reclining the front passenger seat and putting a plastic bag on the seat makes turning easier after hip or spine surgery. In the basement, someone should hold the lift door, because lift doors don't wait for a walker. Inside the flat, the path from the main door to the bed should be clear of rugs, shoe racks and loose wires. These sound small. After a knee replacement, one tripping point on that path is enough to undo a week.

Setting up the bedroom, bathroom and stairs

On the first visit we look at the rooms the person will actually use:

  • Bed height and side: the hips should be a little above the knees when sitting on the edge, and the exit side chosen to suit the operation.
  • Toilet: a raised seat or commode chair is usually needed after hip, knee and spine surgery. Grab bars help if the family can fit them.
  • Shower: a stool, a handheld shower and a non-slip mat. Dressings kept as the surgeon or nurse advised.
  • Stairs: even with a lift, we teach the stair pattern for days when the lift is under maintenance or the society has steps at the entrance.
  • Where the attendant stands: close, on the weaker side, without taking all the weight.

What a home session looks like

A session runs about 45 to 60 minutes. It usually opens with a quick check on pain, sleep, swelling and anything the nurse or surgeon has said. Then comes exercise within the protocol: circulation work, waking up muscles that switched off after surgery, joint movement where permitted, and walking practice with the right aid. Our physiotherapists carry TENS and IFT units, therapeutic ultrasound and an electrical muscle stimulator, plus bands, heat and ice packs, walking aids and a goniometer, though most of the session is active exercise rather than machines. You'll find the general ideas in our post-operative exercise guide.

After abdominal or heart surgery the emphasis shifts: deep breathing, coughing with a pillow pressed over the wound for support, and walking a little farther along the floor's corridor each day. A chest that stays shallow after surgery is easier to prevent than to treat.

The last ten minutes often go to the attendant: practising a transfer together, checking they support the leg the right way, and agreeing what to do before the next visit.

Post operative home physiotherapy in Noida on scheduled slots

Our Noida rounds are planned in advance so that travel doesn't eat into treatment time. The regular route takes in Sectors 121 and 137, 62 and 63, 71, 72, 75 and 76, as well as Noida Extension. Working families tend to ask for evenings, when a son or daughter back from office can learn the routine, and those times fill up, so ask a day in advance. If both adults work, a weekend daytime slot for the first visit can be better than an evening, simply because the main carer is fresh and there is time to rearrange furniture together. See how we work inside Noida societies for more on coverage.

When nursing and physiotherapy overlap

Many patients in the first week need both. Dressing changes, injections and help with bathing are nursing tasks. Movement, walking and exercise are ours. When both teams visit, we agree timings so exercise doesn't follow straight after a painful dressing, and the nurse knows which transfers we've taught. Home nursing after an operation can be arranged through us.

Guides for specific operations in Noida

Each surgery has its own early rules, and our location pages go into them: knee replacement physiotherapy in Noida, after hip replacement at home, spine surgery recovery in Noida, fracture fixation rehab at home and the sling weeks after shoulder surgery.

When a trip to the Indirapuram clinic is worth it

For most people, a trip to the clinic makes sense once the surgeon is happy with travel, the person can manage the car without breaking precautions, and the work has moved to strengthening. From most Noida sectors that's a longer drive, so some families keep home visits on weekdays and add a clinic session at the weekend for gym-based work. Track how things are going with the exercise progress tracker for after surgery. The Indirapuram home-to-clinic programme explains that later stage, and the Raj Nagar Extension weekly home plan shows how longer courses can run. Our approach overall is set out under post-surgical rehab.

When to call the surgeon or an ambulance

Call the surgeon the same day for a temperature, a wound that reddens, swells or oozes, or pain that is suddenly far worse. New tingling, numbness or weakness in an arm or leg also needs a call. After back or neck surgery, losing control of the bladder or bowel is an emergency. Calf pain or one-sided leg swelling needs urgent review. Sudden chest pain or a struggle to breathe means calling 112 or 108 at once.

Medical note

This page is general information, not a diagnosis or a treatment plan. Your physiotherapy is planned after an in-person assessment and works alongside the advice of your surgeon and doctor. Recovery differs from person to person, so no timeline or result on this page is a promise.

Frequently asked questions

Can you visit while my parent is still in hospital to plan discharge?

We don't treat inside hospitals, but we can speak with the family before discharge about the car journey, bed position and bathroom set-up. Share the discharge summary when it is ready. That way the first home visit can focus on treatment rather than rearranging furniture.

Our society lift is often crowded. Is that a problem after surgery?

It can be in the first weeks, especially with a walker. Choose quieter times for outings, ask a family member to hold the door, and stand at the back of the lift away from people stepping in. We practise lift entry on an early visit if it worries you.

Can a female physiotherapist visit for post-surgery care?

Yes, a female physiotherapist can be requested. Mention it when booking so the scheduled Noida route can be planned around it. Availability may affect the exact slot, so evening requests are best made a day ahead.

What should we keep ready for the first home visit?

The discharge summary, the surgeon's exercise or protocol sheet if one was given, any X-ray reports, and a list of current medicines (we note them, we don't advise on them). Keep the walker or crutches handy and clear a path between the bed and bathroom.

How many weeks of home visits do most people need in Noida?

It varies with the operation and the person. After a knee or hip replacement, home visits often cover the first several weeks. After smaller procedures, a few visits may be enough before moving to a home programme or clinic. We review frequency regularly rather than fixing it at the start.
